European University of Space UNIVERSEH
The July 10, 2020
The Federal University Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées (coordinator, France), the University of Luxembourg (Luxembourg), Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (Germany), Luleå Tekniska Universitet (Sweden) and Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza im. Stanisława Staszica Krakowie (Poland) have joined forces to build a European University around the theme of "Space" in all its aspects (science, engineering, economy, social sciences and humanities, patents and innovation, entrepreneurship, science & medicine, art & culture...).
The UNIVERSEH - European Space University for Earth and Humanity project aims to contribute to the European Area of Education, employment and industry growth, to make the space sector more sustainable and to ensure that the European Union remains a world leader in this field.
In order to do this, it is essential to bring the development of skills in higher education and research into line with the future needs of the labour market. The UNIVERSEH alliance will be able to rely on its expertise, its achievements in contacts with the space industry and European space institutes, to adapt rapidly to offer training to meet European space needs. An advisory committee, to interact closely with stakeholders, will be established.
The courses will be organised in sectoral modules to meet the needs of the industrial market.UNIVERSEH will train future space sector employees and entrepreneurs in Europe
Mobility as one of the basis of the project
Staff and student mobility will be an important component of the project. Ambitious targets for increased mobility are set for the first three years of the project and will be achieved through a variety of actions built around the creation of a new online mobility platform specially designed for students, researchers and staff at member universities. This will encourage the creation of a UNIVERSEH network where students, staff and researchers can share their experiences ; mobility awareness actions will also be implemented.
Innovative pedagogy with a cross-sectoral approach
Through UNIVERSEH, it will be a question of developing innovative pedagogical approaches and a common European culture through the sharing of competences. This will provide interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral programs. For example, it is essential that students in the humanities and social sciences have access to an overview of space sciences and engineering. And in a complementary way, it is essential that the engineers of tomorrow access a quality training in arts, letters and languages and question from a philosophical, anthropological or psychological point of view our relationship to Space.
Inclusive and equal education
UNIVERSEH aims to promote inclusive education and gender equality, including those from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds or from immigration and those with disabilities. A particular focus will be on the mobility of these people so that they have the opportunity to study, train and learn abroad.
